“This “survey of experimental art and design magazines” published since 2000, explores the various ways in which contemporary artists and designers utilize the magazine format as an experimental space for the presentation of artworks and text.
The works on view represent a broad array of international titles within this genre, from community-building newspapers to image-only photography magazines to conceptual design projects. Assembled together, these contemporary magazines provide a first-hand view into these practices and represents the MoMA Library’s sustained effort to document and collect this medium.” via Grandlife

Freehand Jobs
April 27th, 2012 at 10:42 pm
If your in NY tomorrow you should go check out Freehand job. Our homie Jon Bocksel is in this jam too.
“Freehand Jobs brings together like minded artists to transform Pandemic gallery into a small town. Building with found and refuse materials, this group will work together to recreate different panoramas of a small, hand-made village. The show will emphasize the simple use of basic materials, hand-drawn signage, and original artwork. Visitors are invited to take a step away from the overwhelming streets of New York and walk into a new landscape, built by a community of artists making a living with their hands in this day and age. Ranging from sign painters, to illustrators, sculptors and more. Each artist will be using their skills to contribute a few pieces and help create an indoor landscape that is unique, and serves as a reminder of the beauty that the artist can provide to our communities.”

Indoors
April 19th, 2012 at 8:30 am
If you’re like us, you sometimes find yourself gazing into the homes of other people while walking the streets thinking, “man,I dig that window with all the plants sucking in light through their gills, wish that was my crib.” Or perhaps just looking at blogs with impossibly cool creative loft spaces. Or reading Apartmento.
Either way, for some reason it brings a small joy to look at nicely photographed living spaces, and Indoors.es is one of those sites you can loose some hours on looking at said spaces.
One catch, its based in Spain, so if you don’t read spanish you’ll only be able to appreciate the spaces and not the people or story behind it. But nobody reads text on the webs anyway right?
¡Feliz lectura!

DATA GARDEN: QUARTET @ Philadelphia Museum of Art
April 2nd, 2012 at 9:00 am
Our friends at the Data Garden are doing exciting things here in Philadelphia and we’re excited to see where they go with all these performace and interactive events they keep pulling out of there sleeves.
DATA GARDEN: QUARTET is the first bio-reactive and plant-controlled work of art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, hosted by Megawords from April 13-15th.
from DG:
“Situated in the Megawords exhibition space, participants will be encouraged to accompany four large tropical plants that are fitted with specialized electronic sensors. By converting the physiology of the specimens into data, the plants will perform quadraphonic audio compositions in real time. The very presence of museum goers will affect this performance, resulting in a unique composition from moment to moment.”
