Being that it’s the olymipics and all, lets do some posts inspired by some great art & design coming out of the UK. 1 in a 100 is a London based label that collaborates with artists to produce a limited run of 100 tee shirts in a model that hopes to treat the t-shirt as an art piece itself. They believe that “The T-shirt is simply an alternative form of canvas on which to exhibit the artist’s work.”

1 in a 100 has released a handful of artist tees from some really great artists and we love what they’re doing. We’re digging the natural world inspired drawings of Katie Scott, featured in the video.

A few months back some amplifier worship was going down in Philadelphia that you should know about.

The sounds came fromPurling Hiss via the Shaking Through series, where the ‘Hiss get a proper production and behind the scenes video on a new track “Lolita”. Curated by Adam Graducile & produced by Brian McTear and Peter English, this series gives you a nice glimpse into the recording process and some of the subtleties that go into it. For `the band, it’s a new chapter, and Mike’s 4-track days may be behind him, but the FTW guitar storm hasn’t gone anywhere!

The raw energy of live shows is mostly improvised & based on feeling, which can be difficult to translate in a studio setting (50 takes for 1 fucking guitar “solo”, no thanks). On the other side of the coin you have the 1st take, no-fuss, honest-to-god rock n’ roll basement jam, which holds a place in all of our hearts. But is there something in between these two approaches? Something not too slick or polished, but worked-in just enough, where visible blood stains are worn with pride?

Here’s where these producers succeed. It’s rad to see a production do justice for a band I’ve seen many a time. It’s still got all the ripped jean swagger you hear Live, still got that un-hinged guitar storm, but now new layers have surfaced revealing some real deal rock n’ goddam roll. Huge sound, full and rich, still burning hot.
